The Role of PCBs in Electronic Business Industries

Author: For the average individual, a printed circuit board, or PCB, is a terminology not commonly heard of. However, not many people are aware that a PCB is almost in every modern device we use today. A PCB is used as a mechanical support and an electrical connector of electronic components with the use of conductive pathways and signal or track traces etched from a copper sheet that is laminated onto a non-conductive substrate. A PCB that is populated with electronic components is called a PC board assembly or a printed circuit assembly.
Printed circuit boards may be small and inexpensive, but they are highly reliable. The fact that they are much cheaper and faster for high volume productions than those point to point and wire-wrapped constructed circuits made PCBs the popular choice of many companies. PCBs are widely used among the industries that belong to telecommunications, electronics, data transmission and more. More often that not, companies belonging to the aforementioned industries are not the ones who make and assemble the PCBs used in making their products. What they usually do is hire a contract manufacturer that can perform the mass production of the printed circuit boards for them. However, not all manufacturers of printed circuit boards offer PC board design and assembly services.
When looking for a manufacturer of PCBs for low to high volume production, it is advisable to look for a manufacturer that also specializes in printed circuit board prototyping and design so that you won’t need to hire someone else who will design and create a prototype for you.
